What an adorable dog you have :)

I think people should start with what the guideline says in the back of the Science Diet bag you have. Then based on your dog's current activity level and weight, adjust accordingly. My dog eats more than the suggested amount. My dog is almost 2, and 60lbs. She is very thin with an athletic build.

My vet says she's seen OES' come a long way. She said her friend used to show them decades ago, and they were a lot thinner. Now, they tend to be "house pet" weight or just overweight, which is disappointing to her. She feels it's best to keep them slim/athletic build to extend their life and keep them the healthiest.
Hi! What a great looking dog you have!
I feed my dog between 3.5 - 4.5 cups (depending on activity) of Nutro High Energy dog food. This type of dog food is for really active dogs and has a higher protein content then most...it is also a little bit more expensive. I supplement this with treats (nutritious ones of course) and a special treat (big artificial bone chew) at certain times. I do not feed people food to my Sheepie (no matter how much he begs...OK he gets a slice of bread every week or so..but no sweets, etc most of that stuff is not even good for humans and is really not good for dogs)

I tend to follow the advice on the labels and also mix about a can with the dry food to make it highly appetizing. I do feed more when we exercise more than one hour a day.

My Sheepie maintains a steady weight of around 81-82 lbs (loses a pound or two in summer as it is so hot here) and is lean and rather muscular.

All in all, I think that following the directions and listening to your vet, in addition to daily exercise will help keep your Sheepie very healthy and happy. I started out with Science Diet (good food BTW) but switched after a few months to the current food.

Bon Apetite to you both!
Thanks for your help!! So- maybe I will stick with Large Breed Puppy food for another couple months..despite my breeder recommending me to change her off puppy after 6 months! Any more suggestions on food I'd appreciate...

Thanks again,
People here have both views here. That it's best to switch a puppy on adult food after they're a year old ...sometimes a little older, and then there are others like me... who believe dogs SHOULD be switched to adult food earlier.

Dog food is made differently than it was a few decades ago. Dogs needed more protein and fat when they were younger, but now they've discovered that too much protein OR fat is hard on their body (organs), and they don't need as much as originally thought. Doctors also say that when some large breeds (such as ours) stay on puppy food, it makes them at a rate faster than their body is prepared to, thus making them taller than normal and/or causing joint problems.

Maybe you should talk to you vet and see what he/she thinks OR do some research on your own. You may want to stick to your puppy food or find out you think it's best for your dog to switch to adult food.
