My Camera Died!

I am so upset, not only did my digital camera die on Halloween, but my old one that I kept as back up, because it was still a great camera is missing. :(
So now I am camera less and as far as I knew yesterday I had two working digitals in great condition.
I had purchased both my cameras. Top of the line HP DSLR for $50 each.
I was working for HP at the time and used training points to get them.
Anyhow, I am really upset because I had won awards with both of the cameras. :(

I really need to have a camera so I bit the bullet and bought a Canon Powershot S3 IS. Seems like a really good camera and it also takes videos. Anyone have one? It has really great reviews.
I really hope I am as happy with this camera as I was with my HPs.

It must be really tough for a photographer to be without a camera!!!!!

I'll be camera shopping any day now, my daughter has asked for a digital for Christmas. Looking for a REASONABLY priced point and shoot!!!!!!!!!!!!
AWW BUMMER E! Esp. since it had to die right on Halloween :( I hope you like your new one! It must be the Christmas of digital cameras. that's what we're getting my dad! (Ideas for a good digital camera at or under $100.00 is appreciated)
I bought the Canon Powershot S2 IS for work. I like it as far as taking excellent pictures and the different macro settings for different shots are easy to use and work great. I find the batteries die really, really fast but hopefully they improved that in the S3. It's also pretty heavy and not a lot of fun to take on vacation because it's not a nice pocket camera. But, since you're a photographer, I'll bet you're used to lugging around a huge camera and will think nothing of it! I think you'll like it.
I'm not even going to ask if you checked out the prices through oes.org at Amazon.com for it... 8)

Canon PowerShot Pro Series S3 IS 6MP with 12x Image Stabilized Zoom
Of all days to die on me, this was probably one of the worst. :(

Thanks Jill, I am glad to hear the good reviews of the S2. I've heard nothing but good reviews 5 stars on the S3. And yes I am use to a big bulky camera.

I did check it out Ron. :)
I paid a LOT less money. They started used on Amazon for $419.00.
I got mine for $280.00 Brand spanking new! :D
That's a great price... but the Amazon price for new is 343... list price is only 399. Is this the right camera? Hover your mouse over that link?
Yes Ron, that is to the camera I bought. But I gave you the price of another that I was looking at. Oops.

I'm a good shopper Ron! I still found the best price available. :D
I have a Canon Powershot too, but I forgot which one!!! I use this video feature more than the brand new video camera we bought before Mr. J left. I guess I should learn how to use it, but the one on my camera is so easy!
Congrats on the new camera! Let us know how it measures up!
I cannot believe how many photo ops I have missed. :(
I could have gotten a great shot of Hayley with all three dogs and they were all looking at me. I also missed shots of Hayley lying down and cuddling with both Rags and Pepsi.
I am going into withdrawals without a camera. :twitch:
At least you didn't KILL it...

A few years ago my BIL wanted to get us a digital for Christmas.
I asked him NOT to do that, for several reasons. (I also knew what
he would spend and I didn't want to feel that obligated!) Anyway,
he did. We used it for a few months, and liked it. We had been
somewhere and my husband had put it in a grocery-type bag,
because we didn't have a camera bag. He had brought it in from the
car, but never put it away. One night while I was
making dinner I went to drain some ground beef and grabbed
a bad on the counter that I thought had coffee grounds in the
bottom.
Yep, I drained all the fat and juice into the bag with
the camera in the bottom. I didn't even know I had done it till
the next day.
Needless to say, ruined. We did eventually get a new one, but
it wasn't nearly as nice as the first one.

I'm guessing the prices have come way down since then?

I can feel your pain! I've seen some of your wonderful photos on here and also miss you don't have your camera. Hopefully, you'll get another one soon!

Well to be perfectly honest .....
It was powering up and then it was shutting down. Lens opening and closing. Then the lens wasn't closing on it's own so I forced it back in, then it stuck. I didn't kill it, just beat it a bit. lol

Thanks Marianne :) I am hoping the new camera arrives tomorrow.
I am pretty excited about it. I just hope it's better than my camera was.
That will at least make me feel a bit better. :D
I love your photography, I hope your new camera measures up to what you have been snapping with, with the other one. Keeping fingers crossed there and looking forward to seeing photos from your new one. :D
Thank you Lisa for the wonderful comments :D
I am so so anxious to get the new camera. Obviously I didn't get it today. :(
I missed more photo ops today. Hayley was lying down snuggled up to Rags. It was so sweet :hearts: Also the kids were playing really nicely together. That doesn't happen too often.
Oh no...I'm sorry your camera died. :( Our flash died, but that's an easy $60 fix. I wish you could just buy the bulbs instead of a new flash!
 I am sooooooo MAD right now.
I called to check the status of my order on the camera and found out they cancelled my order without ever letting me know.
They cancelled it because they were out of stock. If I hadn't checked i'd still be waiting around.
After a bunch of phone calls I was able to find a place that had them in stock and it will be shipped today.
Now I have to wait even longer and am I so in withdrawals it's not even funny!
Buggar, hope it arrives soon for you.
Well that bites!! You'd think they'd at least send you an e-mail or something. Sorry you're having so much trouble getting a new camera, Elissa. Hope this one comes super fast!
Here we are over a week later...... no Camera!!

It was finally shipped on Monday night. So didn't really go out until Tuesday. It is not supposed to arrive until next Monday.  They told me that my order was approved (whatever that means) on Thursday of last week. So you'd think they would have sent it then. Why wopuld they wait until Monday. Can you tell I'm upset??
Meanwhile last night I won an auction for a digital camera on e-bay for Billy (a Christmas Present). Shall we take bets on which one arrives first. I bet it's his!!
:( So Sorry!!

I just bought my daughter a digital camera (Kodak Z650) for Christmas, would you like to borrow that one til yours arrives (I'd need it back by Christmas)
Ugh, I'm sorry Elissa. :( I hope it arrives soon.

Hey...I have a question since you're the photographer of the group. :) Do you know anything about the Canon Rebel SLR Digitals? Jason has been eyeing the 10.1 MP one, and he's thinking about getting it after Christmas. I was just wondering if it was a good camera or not.

I love the one we have now (Sony Cybershot F828), but I can understand his not wanting to buy a new flash every few months at $60/pop (the flash in our camera messed up when Jason dropped it once and it costs too much to fix it so we've been using a shoe type flash).
Thanks Ginny, but I am sure the camera I got for Billy will be here by the end of the week. So I can use his. Just not around him. Since it is his present.

Thanks Gail,
The Canon Rebel SLR's are amazing cameras.
I was going to get the Rebel XT, but it didn't offer video, either does the XTI. I was also lead to the Powershot S3 IS because it has an image stabilizer. Which well help make take better photos. I have shakey hands from arthritis. But if you are looking for a GREAT Full SLR camera, The Rebel is by far the leader of the pack.

Here is a review of the Rebel XT http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/C ... os350d.asp

and XTI

This is the one I ordered.

No video? :( We have a video camera, but I like being able to shoot videos with our digital camera too. You never know when something cute will happen and you just have your camera. The video camera is good for things like Jake's upcoming Christmas program at school, but I don't want to lug it and extra tapes around everywhere. I'll have to talk to him about it. The pics on that review site are gorgeous though. :? That's just a lot of money to pay for a camera that doesn't have a video feature.
The S3 IS has tons of features it's a semi SLR
Also you can take still's while videoing with it and it has unlimited record time. But it depends on the size card you have.
I checked out a whole lot of different Cameras. But I knew I wanted a Canon. After reading info on a lot of cameras I decided this would be the perfect one for me. It does have some add on lenses you can buy for it too.
