Holiday Party

I'm tossing around the idea of having a holiday open house. Probably on a Saturday afternoon....2-5ish.

I don't want to serve any entrees, just really nice munching things, buffet style, and of course, cocktails.

I have no idea what to serve or how to plan this! Ideas PLEASE!!!!

Oh...and since I'm Jewish (and my darling Tony is Catholic) it won't be "religion specific", so decorating ideas too.

(Ain't I a pain in the tush??? :P )

Thanks!

Id get a Paula Dean cookbook.....all of her appi's look yummy and simple!!
My favorite cocktaily grazing type food is "Caprese on a stick." It is perfect for the holidays, as it is red and green and white.

Caprese on a stick:
(I have the "X amount" because it all depends on how much you're making)

X amount of small mozarella balls (each the size of a large jawbreaker, or mozarella cut into jawbreaker-sized squares).
X amount of cherry tomatoes
Basil leaves.
Toothpicks
salt and olive, optional

Take a toothpick and alternate a piece of cheese, basil leaf and cherry tomato. Repeat!

If you want, you can also drizzle them while on the tray with a little good extra virgin olive oil and salt.
I like shrimp cocktail. Easy, and as long as it is served on ice, it keeps well throughout the party :) A nice baguette and cheese plate is always a favorite at our holiday buffet tables :)

Harry and Davids stores have this fabulous pepper relish that you combine with cream cheese. It is quite possible the worlds best cracker dip!
Let me think on the food, but the decorating can be just about everything except the tree.....not that it's religious, it takes up too much room for a party. So have plenty of evergreens and candles, lights, etc. I've mentioned my holiday table decorating this year with Santas, well last year I decorated to "silver and gold". I took the tall glass vases and filled them with either gold or silver ornament balls...the best vases were those where the balls varied in texture. On the top I put either white or goldish artifical poinsettias and topped them with either silver or gold ting-ting. That's the florist curlies sprayed in various glitter colors. Several of those vases together with evergreen boughs around would be fine. You could carry the theme by using gold and silver in a wreath or two and in smaller arrangements around the room/house. I had a white table cloth and either silver or gold chargers, silver goblets, etc. Actually if you have some silver serving pieces, that should be enough. If you need pictures, I have some around here somewhere.
Sheepieboss had some great suggestions! I think snowflakes are great for decorations too.

Deviled eggs are a must for a party :)
How about that ageless "Fondue"? Either cheese or chocolate....

or both, for that matter!!

Yeah for cocktail weenies!!!!!!

(Hey, what do you expect? I don't cook!)
I love cocktail weenies in the sweet tomato sauce. Anyone know how to make that?

The fondue is a great idea, but since it will be an open house, I don't think it will hold up well.

Great ideas...keep 'em comin'!!!! (thanks! )
Ok, I know this is a little pathetic, but...
Get a pack of lil' smokies - they are the tiny sausage-type weenies,
a tube of cresent rolls, and some really great cheese - whatever
your favorite is. Cut the cresent rolls into smaller triangles and
wrap a stick of cheese and a weenie and bake till golden. They are
super easy, especially if you are making other things. There are
never any leftovers, and even though I don't much care for the
weenies even I eat a couple. Big hit with our family anyway...

Shelllie
Meatballs kept warm in a chafing dish are always popular.
I have a great recipe for sweet and sour meatballs. In fact, it was my grandma Helen's. I was planning on making those, because they freeze great, and thaw nicely in the microwave.

I'm also thinking, chopped liver with crackers. And cold shrimp (as in cocktail shrimp).

Maybe some veggie kabobs.

But I feel like I need more.
Lots of holiday cookies!!! Sugar high here you come!! :high5:
Ok...so some of you know Tony and I bought a new bed a couple weeks ago. It's a pretty tall mattress.

This weekend I had to buy new sheets and a comforter, because our old stuff didn't fit right.

The reason I'm telling y'all this, is that I spent my party money! No party this year

Do you KNOW how expensive that stuff is?????????????

Thanks for all the tips. I will keep them for next year!
