Help me! A New User Rank system? I need a list!

I've been thinking about our User Rank System, you know, those little titles under almost everyone's username? They change according to the number of posts one has made on the forum. Another feature is that I can attach a little picture to each rank, so that as the rank words increase, the pictures change as well.

We've used the same ranking system for a year or two now and I'd like to see a new set of ranks in place. Our current set suggests increases in the length (or quality) of a dog's coat. Anyone care to contribute a set of text ranks that suggest an increasing number of posts?

There are currently 20 different ranks, I'd like to have at least that many, perhaps up to 30 or 40 would be even better so that they would change for posters even more often. The way it is set up does not require 30 or 40 different pictures; but just an idea for a set of little icons or better yet a link to them! :D

Please post your suggested sets! (It's harder than you think to come up with that many that are in the same subject matter! At least it was for me!) Or tell me to leave it alone, or suggest some additional "hair lengths" for our set.

The number of posts at which each rank takes effect won't be listed to keep some of the suspense...

If I publish the current set, would that take away some of the fun? I think so... :(

Help!

You could do it by size/weight. as in the people who haven't posterd much are lighter weight (or smaller) the ones who have lots of posts are heavier (or bigger)... I have no idea how'd you'd come up with 40 such descriptions though... hello thesaurus!

How about by knowledge level? People with lots of posts could be gurus or some such?

Hmmm....
how about different dog breeds, smallest to largest, so you start as a chihuahua and end up as a irish wolfhound?
On agility or obedience training, is there a set of commands that could be used, from really simple to very complex?

Or maybe is you use a set of icons, how many sheep you sheepie can herd? The more sheep, the higher rate you have on the forum. The sheep could be different colors and with numbers attached to them, along with the description of the coat we've been using.
Hey I like the number of sheep too. The newcomer to be a little lamb until they reach the next level. And if someone gets out of line rather than drop them they could be designated an "old goat". :D
I also like the number of sheep too. :P
"old goat" made me laugh. Perhaps "mutton" would work also?
Love the sheep idea!!!

Mop Lover
Old Goat... LOL!!
chocolate bars?

you've got basic M&M's all the way to truffles.

Old goat...

as if I don't think about chocolate enough already! :D
I think the development of an oes, from birth all the way up would be nice... it can include developmental stages, coat changes, personality things... whatever comes to mind for oes at various ages.
Hey, I DON'T WANT TO BE and "OLD GOAT" :(
I can come up with a list of generalized topics... the hard part is coming up with 40 consecuritve descriptive adjectives or phrases in the category...
I don't mind being an old goat if I've got tons of stars of sheepies under my name! I like seeing how many posts we have, and like when I've reached another stage! :) ...unless you get a title every 100posts. Some of us can do that in a week. :?
Hmm... I don't know Ron. I think you'll just have to tell us what topic you want to go with, and we'll have to go from there. I'm sure with all of us, we can come up with 40 reasonably consecutive descriptive words. It's hard not knowing which topic though...
Here was my original request....

Sheepie Prince/Princess

Sheepie God/Godess

I saw this on another forum that was not for Sheepies and changed it.
Just a suggestion as you were asking for them. :)

OK. Ron.

You come up with a list of topics out of ones you can think up and ones that have been suggested. Then eitehr you pick one or we can vote for one.

Then we can all help with the 40 or so adverbs or descriptions...once the topic is decided on.
I didn't see that option, Ron.

I LOVE the hair lengths. I also like sticking to something sheepie. I like feeling good about where I am. I like that the newbies get names that I know aren't "well-established" while others are show-quality, etc.

One of the first things I think of when I think of a sheepie, is their hair.. so that's why I love it the most.

Seems like other people like the idea of change though.
I like the hair lengths!! :D
I like the hair lengths, too. Can you give us the list of all the hair lengths used and then maybe we can help fill in some new ones?
I would like to know what you are going to do with all of the members that have gone way past the "best in show" rating??
It would be fun to add a few more in to the hairlengths or change the way we have it now (name for most posts, least, etc). Maybe we can give people personal titles after they've reached X amount ...say 5,000 posts. That's really not a lot either. Or maybe they should be the ones who get the final title with the award icon thing I see many people have. I know I'm jealous I don't have one yet
You mean Image ? I was just playing around with that one day. I could only find one single blue ribbon like that on the web....

But I can string'em together and such and I will when we've got this figured out a bit.

Do people really want me to publish the whole list of ranks? Won't it ruin the "fun", kind of like a spoiler?
It does ruin the fun listing all the list of ranks. I like the way it changes as the posting total goes up, always a bit of fun when you reach a certain number and all of a sudden something new & unexpected under your name  . :D

I also like the hair length ranks too, lots of fun there going from shaved upwards.

You could add to that list of lengths two more in the ranking, "Junior Coat" & "Full Mature Coat" then go on to your"opposite of Breed", "Best of Breed" etc and upward to your "Best Inshow" rankings. Just a thought there  You could also include a ranking of Champion and Grand Champion too somewhere in the rankings before it goes onto the "Opposite of Breed" "Best of Breed" etc.etc.

As far as 5000+ posts, Definately "oes.org addict" 8)  That makes me laugh everytime I see it. :D
I think it would drive me nuts to have them all say "Sheepie" anything...
LOL
This really is a lot harder than you would think. LOL I'm trying to come up with developmental stages and have 16 so far... not easy at all! LOL
I like the current ranking system! I also like the fact that I'm not sure of when my rank will change, or what it will change to. The current one is fun!
I'm not sure I understand those who say they like that the current ranking is a secret? I though you just have to look at someoen with more posts than you to see what is next just like any other ranking system. Maybe I'm missing something.
Well, I don't think my next rank will be "Best of Breed".

I guess I could spend an hour searching for someone who has 100 or so more posts than me and maybe figure out what my next rank will be and approximately when..... but where's the fun in that?
Didn’t know that the text was about the hair length, but I’m from Norway8O , could someone tell me what hair length a fluffernut is???
I can't remember what the early lengths are but it has been forever for me on this length. So I like the way it is, just add a few more.

Top knot
Pigtails
Wispy
SplitEnds
Blocked Vision
Parted
Comb Over
Hat Head
Bald
Wirey
Scruffy
Primped
Straight
Kinked
Curly

Blow Dried
Ann E, lol ...I don't know what that is either, but I love that title. It was creative.
I thought of a couple more to add to my other post:

Moppy

Crimped
Unkempt
Stylin
Buzz Cut
Fringed
Streaked
Washed
Flat
FrooFroo

Did those help at all?

You've already got:

Shaved
Comable
Fluffernutter (Fluffy)

I'm not sure... shaved is definitely a length and combable is a length that's long enough to be combed. Fluffernutter is a name Joan and I used for stage that is just when the whole coat gets fluffy...

I'm not sure if all of your conditions can be tied to a period in the coat's development.

That said, things like Best In Show and other show titles aren't really either, but they were the best I could come up with. ;)
No, I was just trying to think of hair related things.

Comable, Fluffy, and Shaved are also a description of hair...as is frizzy, or frazzled.

Sorry I guess I wasn't very helpful. Maybe someone else???
I think all the titles were presently have are perfect. I think everyone knows what each stage means because we all go through it!!! Shaved clearly means somewhere in the beginning stages ..again. :) Besides, it doesn't have to make complete sense.

I'm sure everyone could come up with a few more titles esp. with the help that's already been posted. I liked lisa's suggestion.
There may be one or two in the list... I like top-knot... there's kind of a point when you can put in a top-knot. Just a question of "where does it fit in."

Ann, the origin of the word "Fluffernutter" as used for a sheepdog I've explained above. But originally the term was developed by a company here that sells a product called "Marshmallow Fluff". Marshmallow Fluff is a very sweet sticky spread sold in a jar, that is very similar to what you get between your fingers if you "pull" (like taffy; repeatedly squeeze and stretch) a marshmallow.

The company came up with the word to describe a sandwich made of Marshmallow Fluff and Peanut butter, a "Fluffernutter."

We just started using is as a term of endearment for the first fluffy stage of our 1st dog Jake.
Ahhh.. I like it! (fluffernutter)

Top knot goes right after full coat, imo. Assuming that's one of the titles. I can't remember all of them. Plus, the word "top" to me insinuates higher (maybe higher position).
Well you did ask for a new set, and a list between 30-40 adjectives to go with the set. I came up with almost 40.

Anyone else have some words?
Ron, Maybe like this?

Fluffernutter,
Shaggy,
No Eyes,
then Top Knot :D
