MANHATTEN CLAM CHOWDER RECIPE

MY DAD WAS A COOK IN THE COAST GUARD DURING WWII
HERE IS HIS RECIPE (ONE OF THE CREW'S FAVORITES & MINE TOO!)

Manhattan Clam Chowder
DAD

<pre> Manhattan Clam Chowder

3 strips bacon diced 1 c canned tomatoes
1 qt boiling water 1/4 tsp pepper
1 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp thyme
1 c carrots 1 can Doxie minced clams & juice
1 c celery
1 c onions 1 tbsp flour
2 c potatoes 1 tbsp water
</pre>
Fry bacon, add water, simmer 5 min. add salt & vegs, except potatoes, simmer 20 min. Add tomatoes, potatoes, pepper, & thyme, simmer 10 min. Thicken w/ flour and water.
