Never laugh at other people's misfortunes...

Last night I went to drop off lil J so I could attend class and I saw two cars that slid off the road. They were rev'ing their engines ...trying to get out of the very small ditch.

I chuckled and thought, "stupid folks. here's goes another season of folks driving too fast on ice."

I couldn't see how they slipped off, so figured they had to be driving super fast.

Speed limit was 45.
I was going 42.

So instead of the babysitters...

I end up sliding into oncoming traffic.

Thankfully both me and the car coming at me were able to come to a complete stop.

There wasn't even ice on the road... well, it didn't look like it. ...and yesterday was the first day of snow (and I thought I was driving safely).

So lesson learned.

I couldn't even pull into the driveway. I parked half way on the babysitter's driveway, and half in the middle of the street. I WAS STUCK and couldn't back out. Had to get people to pull me out.

Guess it's time to change my tires!

The one thing I hate about snow/ice.

When it's time to shovel, I'll add another 1 more reason to why I hate snow.

oh, my bad. She gets offended when I use that word. I mean... daycare provider.
Scary. Sounds like black ice -- road looks perfectly clear but moisture on the surface freezes into a very thin layer of invisible ice. It is very treacherous and when I see cars off the road for no reason, I always suspect it.

I am glad you are ok.
Leanne: Thank God you, Lil J. your car and everyone else involved where ok. I don't miss the snow and ice. Just becareful and take care.
This time of year is bad for black ice. The temp varies so much day and night and can change so quickly, the roads can be slippery when you least expect it.
Drive safe :)
Scary!! I'm glad you're ok.
Scary! 8O 8O
Very scary! Glad you are okay!
Yikes. I'm glad nothing bad happened! Be Careful!
I HATE black ice. Most treacherous surface. SO glad you and the other driver were able to stop and that everyone and every vehicle is okay.

I can't wait to retire so that I don't HAVE to drive in that stuff in the winter!!
I remember coming here last year. It was probably this exact date. I walked out of the airport ...to fetch my car rental, and SPLAAAAAAAAT! 7 1/2 months pregnant, and fell right on the black ice. It was my very own "WELCOME TO ALASKA!"
SOOOO glad you are ok!!! We've had snow the last two mornings. I've had several MVA squad calls. Yup, winter is here!!!
I am not looking forward to winter driving! I hate it!! My heart beats a mile a minute and I want to throw up!! I always lived in a city and just walked. Now I live on a dirt road a mile off the main road and 20 minutes to work. I am scared!!

Great now I am stressed and it is a sunny day out haha

I am glad you are alright I feel for you!
spacegirl, you sound like me! I stress over t too. You should have seen me on the road today ....sitting erect, eyes WIDE OPEN, and my hands hanging on the wheel as TIGHT AS POSSIBLE.

I took my car to get a block heater. Had to take a taxi back ...$45 bucks to go 15 minutes away. @%#$^#^&$%&$%&$^$
haha that is how I drive on the highway white knuckles the whole way!

Snow! I mays well faint and get it over with...
On a brighter note, my SIL just had twins 30 minutes ago!!! WOOHOO

:yay: :yay:

3lbs 7oz and 4lbs and something...
One is breathing on his own, and the other isn't. The lighter baby is one breathing okay.

I WANT ANOTHER BABY TOO!!!! Wish your husband didn't have to be in the house to have one! We're married, that should be enough!
Glad you are okay, driving is such a scary thing for me in winter...altho I've never caused a winter accident...I just back into parked cars in the middle of the day

Wow those are tiny babies, hope the other gets breathing on his/her own. Congratulations on being an aunty. :excited:
Yey! More twins!! Boy they sure sound small....but Lisa and I were 4lbs each and we turned out okay.......i think 8O
I was told that was a good size for twins, but I know nothing about them. She was 32 weeks. She was given steriods for several weeks which I guess helps her boys breathe before they come out?

They didn't want to have them this early, but she had toxemia. That, she heard, was normal, but it moved into her liver, which made it very dangerous for mommy. She never had high blood pressure during her pregnancy, so everyone was surprised.
My cousin's twins were tiny too, born at 29 weeks, one was 3 lbs 12 oz and the other was 4 lbs even. A good size for twins born that early, and their mom is TINY!
Anyway, they had a rough start but are fine, they are 11 years old and the girl is taller than her mom already
Yeah, I think they're going to be fine. :) We can't imagine if she went full term. Her doctor is known for his ability to get moms with twins go full term, but this was a health issue. She's about 5'2 or so... and very skinny as well. I just hope mommy is okay. :)
Sounds like the twins are doing OK so far. Fingers crossed that they progress well.

As for the driving, well, that is soooo scary when you are not expecting it. Phew. Glad to hear that all ended safely. Drive carefully anytime the road looks wet...better safe than sorry...

Live dangerously!!!!!!!

My husband can't stand it! I start out all nice and good when he is a passenger, then when all is clear ...off we go doing dougnuts! He curses and screams at me and I laugh my head off!!!!

So much fun!!!!

Oh, and any of you young'uns reading this Don't try this at home!! 8O 8O
I used to do this is NJ. I would find a great big empty parking lot.
Usually the Jr High near my house and do donuts in the snow.
WHAT FUN!!
:phew: Glad you're OK! Congrats on the twins!
Congratulations!!! I'm a twin and only weighed a little over 3 lbs and that was a LONG time a go. Nowdays that size is condsiedered a "keeper"
Hi,

So glad to hear that you and Lil J were not harmed. Whew!! Had me very worried when I first started reading your post.

Best wishes on being a new auntie!

Marianne and the boys, kjnhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh<<<<<<< my kitty just wanted to write that last part..ha ha!
Good to hear there was no damage to person or property. :phew:
Here in the east, this time of year is wet leaf season. Just like black ice, only a little more colorful. Give it about a month and we'll be complaining about ice and snow and the rest of the winter junk. Grrrrrr

P.S. You haven't lived until you've done donuts in an ambulance. Hey Ginny, this is your chance to go crazy!

I don't know how many times that happens at our house. One of the cats loves to sit on the laptop because it's warm. Drives me bonkers!
So glad you are both okay! Black ice and water on the road (hydroplaning) are terrible - because there's not much you can do to prevent either. I had an accident and went into the ditch once from hydroplaning, and I was only going about 30 because I couldn't see too far in front of me. My dad thought I was driving faster and was fussing on me (once he figured out I was okay), but the cop was right behind me and told him I wasn't driving fast. He said he saw my tail lights and they just disappeared. He turned around and sure enough I was in the ditch. That was a scary accident.
OMG!!! I am so glad you guys are ok! I hate black ice!

Congrats on the babies!!!!

:ghug:
