Marie Antoinette

Just saw this last night with my dad (retired history teacher).

I thought the movie as a whole was good, but it definitely was more of an art film than a mainstream movie.

It did a great job of capturing the aspect of getting married into a monarchy and the artestry of the movie was lovely in true Sophia Coppola fashion. There were similarities to the movie "Virgin Suicides", especially since Kirsten Dunst was in it.

I've heard the music in this movie is great.

I actually heard a movie review of Marie Antionette this morning on the radio from "The Blind Movie Reviewer". Yes, he's blind. His big complaint was that all the characters who were supposed to be French had British accents and the Austrian(?) had no accent at all. It's a silly little thing, but it would bug me too.
I read in a work up in our local paper (Star Tribune) that the film makers made a conscious decsion not to have any of the actors use accents to make a point of how "progressive" Marie was as a person, and to have the movie appeal to a younger audience. Apparently Kirsten Dunst also wore sneakers under her costume... although I'm not sure why they made a big deal of that. Nobody sees them, so does it matter if the actress had comfortable feet or not? Hmmm....

I am going to see this movie though! I love costume dramas :)
Definitely a lot of lavish costumes.

I loved the music. Can't go wrong with New Order, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Gang of Four, Adam Ant & Aphex Twin all in one soundtrack! Also loved the "Lost In Translation" & "Virgin Suicides" Soundtracks as well which was a lot of nice downtempo electronica.
I'm looking forward to seeing this is. I love the design and colors of the titles. I think it was a smart way of marketing it to give it a more modern feel than other period pieces. I like Sophia Coppola a lot.

Siouxsie is my all time favorite so that alone would make me want to see it! Anyone who chooses her for the soundtrack must know what they're doing. ;)
I want to see this one too. Gotta love all the clothes!

On a side note, I wanted to start spelling Suzi's name like Siouxsie and the Banshees but thought no one would get it so I just went with the Z. What was I thinking?
