What we do for dinner...

So my boyfriend and I partake in the many church and fireman and community suppers and breakfasts. He actually rights up a somewhat review:

Is this just a Nova Scotia thing or do others have these? I love them I get a home cooked meal and don't have to cook it.

I've never heard of these but they sound great. Like you said, a home cooked meal that you don't have to cook. Those pictures are making me hungry!
we have them here but we don't usually go unless it is like a festival.
we went over the weekend to the autumn harvest festival at a church. There was tons of wonderful food and all we did was bring in some coats to donate. I think we took in 4 almost new coats that we never wore cuz the MIL bought them and nobody here really wears them
It must be a Nova Scotia thing.... I look for the annoucements in the paper on Friday's and then plan my meal for Saturday night.

I stay away from the "baked bean" ones, don't like the baked beans.. my favourite are the turkey or ham suppers..
Ham with scalloped potatoes!!! my fav!

There has been a ton lately. Corned beef and cabbage next week. mmmm
I love CB&C!!!!

Your making me hungry!!!!
Wow, never heard of planked fish dinners, those look awesome!

We have a lot of volunteer organizations nearby which allows for plenty of pancake breakfasts, spaghetti dinners & BBQ's. My favorite though is this little Quaker church that puts on this little strawberry festival each year. The little old ladies in the church make cakes & they have an engine out front that makes homemade ice cream. We look forward to going every year.

I do have to say that when my husband & I travel we really try & seek out these little types of events. You really get to meet the local folk that way & it's such a wonderful slice of community.
Planked Salmon is TO DIE FOR!!!!!!
Nope, never heard of planked fish either. We are definietely to far inland!
We only have the occasional church dinners and Legion Hall fish fries here. I haven't gone in a while. Maybe I should check them out - this is making me hungry!
My husband is a fireman and ive never heard of this....this sounds wonderful....I do know that the guys at my husbands station all dislike cooking, so on a day off, Ill go over there and cook for them....
Most times it is to make money for a new truck or to renovate or something like that. Great way to support the community and have a great meal. MMMm thank goodness it is lunch. I am having shepards pie. yummers.
Darcy, your husband is the wrong kind of firefighter. He actually gets paid to do this!
you know it....but ive had their cooking....cant say that it is the best.....worst heartburn ever.....they make it too spicey, too salty, just too too.....thats why he likes me to cook on occassion
