Hi Nicole and welcome to this wonderful forum

Ahhhhh Batman looks such a poppett and I love the name.
Welcome Nicole. You'll find we are a friendly bunch and have much to say--all good of course. You'll learn a lot here.

Batman is a punkin and a perfect name for himself with a mask! I know you're very excited and can't wait for him to come home. We like pictures, so have your camera ready!
I love Batman's markings! I want my next sheepie to have two patches. I understand why you fell in love. :)

How do you and when do you plan on picking up the puppy?

Soon? If so, there shouldn't be a problem, but I'm asking because you guys have to take into consideration the changing weather. This entire week will be in the upper 30's/low upper 20's according to the news, so it won't be too much longer that they (airlines) will allow animals to fly in Anchorage. Unless someone is taking it on board instead of in cargo?

I know most of the flights my friends take only come in at/after midnight, which may already be too cold for airlines.

You guys may have already looked into this or have different plans, but I thought I'd throw that out there since my husband mentioned it today when I bragged about a possible new sheepie friend in Alaska.
I am going to send my hubby there (TN) to get him, he wants to visit his mom anyway. So he'll be bringing Batman back with him, not in cargo. Does anyone know how much that will cost?

i'm so excited!!

nic
Good to know!!! How exciting for your husband! So you'll be getting the dog soon? He'll get big before you know it!!!!

Depends on the airline you take. Each is different. Just contact them. I think we paid $80 each way last time we flew from Anchorage. We paid $60 with another airline.

Make sure you have some puppy pads inside of that carry-on pet bag :)
A towel too because there's a good chance they'll pee, although some are so scared they don't.

We had stops in Colorado and Seattle. I can't remember which one this was, but one of them didn't have a pet area for dogs to go pee, so we just let my dog go in the soil at one of the exits we found. The other had a nice pet area (just ask the people working there).

You're not supposed to take your dog out of the puppy bag, but we did. We just put an airline blanket over her to hide her. Some airline attendents hate it and will say something (one of ours did), and others will encourage you to take the dog out (even though the policy is not to). Although I bet your puppy will just be content sleeping the entire way :)
Oh good! I thought it would be really expensive!!! not too bad though!

Now I need to look at puppy bags! LOL I don't know if I'll be ab le to find one big enough! We talked to her today and he already weighs 22 lbs!!! I'm antsy to get him here, my DH is trying t get her to go to Las Vegas with the dog so he can pick him up there and not worry about the super long fllight and cost of going to TN. She's going to a convention there anyway in a couple of weeks. We'll see!

We will have to get together for a playdate with our whole families!! Not just furry ones! It's nice to know nice people!!

soon soon!

Nic
Hi Nicole and greetings from Australia, welcome too. :D

Batman is such a cutie, wishing you many years of happiness with your new little fur kid. :D
Well, my husband is in Iraq for a year (just left), so hopefully you still want to get together! I go to Petco every weekend with my son and dog, so it's fun to socialize. Sat. is pet adoption day, so there's always more people and dogs there.

You may want to contact the airline because your dog may be too big to bring on. I don't think so from the picture, but weight wise, he sounds it. Since they don't check "weight," I was told by Alaskan Airlines and by Continental that the dog just had to be able to fit under the seat in the pet bag.
they have a brown bag that is airline approved at Petco.

When I bought it, it was almost $100 and now I think it's super cheap (maybe $20-40). I saw it there last weekend (all the way in the back).
Of course!!! I would still love to get together!
Hopefully he won't be too big! That would stink! i guess once we find out when we can go get him, I'll have to call the airlines and see what they say!!!

Let me know next time you come in to Petco so I can go with and find that bag you were talking about!!

Thanks!
Nic
