watermelon

I know no grapes or raisins, thanks to Ron`s post, but what about watermelon? Zoe has decided she loves watermelon, even though she never cared for it before.

Good question! I had a dog that used to love watermelon and carrots....lol
Oooh, watermelon! My husbands oes used to love watermelon and cherries! He told me that she would take a cherry on a stem and work on it for 10 minutes. Then, when she walked away, he would find a cherry pit still attached to the stem!!!
Ooooh, I love cherries.... now I want some!
Baxter likes all types of fruit and vegetables - well, if they are crunchy he likes them. Apples (he prefers golden delicious although cortland will do in a pinch), broccoli, watermelon, cantelope, potatos, and best of all....raw carrots. He goes through about 5 pounds of carrots a week!

He did try rhubarb this week.....the face that he made was priceless.
:D Zoe will eat potatoes as long as they`re cooked. Broccoli no way. She doesn`t go much for green vegies. I`ve never thought to give her a raw carrot. hmm... Now we`ll have to see....

So I`m assuming then that watermelon is ok? She`ll be happy to know that!!

Man, I love this board!

:)
If you check out the pics gallery, aginright has a picture of Abbi eating watermelon. My guess is she did the research before she fed her the melon.
I have a dumb question about the carrots. Do you peel them first before you give them to your dog?

I don't think it matters! But..... I'm lazy and I buy the little carrots already peeled!

I think that is a different Abby (vs Abbi)

Ohh yeah! Jake loved the little peeled baby carrots. Those sweet little carrots for our sweet little friends. Those marketers are missing a bonanza!!!!

I think peeling the carrots is mostly a preference thing, but then again the carrots lived in the ground, and were probably grown with chemical assisatnce (unless you buy only certified organic) so a good washing and optional peeling might not be a bad idea. In my opinion, of course.
I would always scrub the carrots real good then peel them before cooking and share with the kids along the way. After Neville got in the garbage so often for the peel and ends i started feeding them to him a long the way. Now he is always there if i miss the garbage can. (good boy clean the floor)
Erised will only eat the baby carrots and Bellatrix just throw them and plays. go figure.

Great minds think alike Ron as when I saw this post I immediately thought of that picture titled "Abby and the Watermelon".

I haven't tried Watermelon with Merlin or Blue but Panda adored them. I was eating sliced watermelon one night when Panda appeared at my side. Gave him a little piece and he wanted more. Loved it!

As for carrots my breeder recommended them when Merlin was a tiny pup for teething and also nutritional value. Merlin has eaten the organic unpeeled ones as well as the tiny already peeled.

One thing I wouldn't recommend...is leaving out 1/2 pound of rock hard butter on the counter like I did last week. Returned home from work and thought I must have placed it back in the fridge as the entire thing was gone - wrapper and all. Luckily, we visited the dog park just a short time later ...where all the regulars commented on how often Merlin was needing to go that day...ewwwww. Enough said.
 Guess I need to learn to read. If I had checked the picture before I spoke would have known it wasn't Abbi. Would have sworn though that it was agin that commented about getting bit by ants while trying to take a picture of Abbi(y) eating watermelon.
Watermelon should be fine as Tung Tung had them during summer from his was a pup until his was 14. Mind you it wasn't daily, more like a weekly treat. He loved 'em..carrots on the other hand he never cared for.
