Does anyone here feed raw?

Bingley is currently on a commercial dry food and he seems to be doing well on it but I was curious how many people use a raw diet for their dogs? I know a couple people that use this and they have been really pleased. :lmt:

Some people from our basset rescue use raw, and are pleased with it. No personal experience though!
A true Hololistic diet, everthing is raw from the vegetables to the meats. Grains are soaked, like barley and oats to soften them. Additives are used, a digestive enzyme is added. I fed that way with one of my dogs, when she was battling cancer, wanted to know exactly what was going into the system at that time. Very time intensive and quite expensive as all fresh ingredients, organic and free range. But all said and done, you know exactly what your dog is eating. No preservatives, no chemicals, no pesticides and no hormones that they use in chicken.

Nowdays, the Holisitic dry foods are guaranteed free from all that, they never had them around back then with my girl. I also add fresh raw ingredients now and use the holisitic dry food as more of a filler. :D

Over the years I have heard some remarkable stories of animals fed this way, raw and natural :D
Doesn't your breeder feed raw? I'm pretty sure it was her that was praising it like crazy and almost had me hooked until I realized that I don't cook for myself, there's no way I'm "preparing" 3 meals a day for the dogs!!

I have heard several people who feed it and do great. If I can remember correctly, they all supplement too just to be sure. :? If you google BARF diet there are some great sites, just watch out for a prepared food called Barf. They are trying to jump on the bandwagon with a prepackaged food by the same name.

Pssssstt! I got to play with Liam this weekend. He said to say hi to Bingley!
I'd LOVE to be able to feed raw here, but finding all the stuff has been difficult. Now that the city is moving towards me, I probably could feed raw full time. My guys absolutely loved it when I was. There are some prepared, freeze dried products available to help with the process.

Yahoogroups has several chat groups on natural feeding. A sheepdog one pretty much fizzled out though.

You're right! She does feed raw, but only within the last couple of months. We met yesterday and she was telling me all about it. I would love to do it, but we don't have a big freezer, and I think the only way it is cost efficient is if you buy in bulk. It sounds like the way to go - I know Bingley would never want to miss a meal!!!

I'm so jealous you got to see Liam! I've never met him. Do you have any pics? I only have one and I would love to see if Bingley resembles him! Oh - and Bingley says "hi" back!
See, she's persuasive that Holland girl!!

I will see Liam again on Friday. I'll take the camera and get some pics and I'll be sure to deliver Bingley's 'hi' to him!
Mandy, wasn't it Karen F, the breeder, who also feeds raw? I thought we were talking about it. I know another OES in South Jersey who feeds raw. Haven't heard anything bad from the people who do it, but I thought there was a veternarian consenscious against it. Something about gastro obstructions. I would just do the research & see if it's right for you. I would imagine it's easier to start a dog when it's younger. Personally, I wouldn't mind it trying it either but I really haven't researched it and can't imagine storing all of that frozen meat.
I've only heard great things about it from several dog forums I go to. I guess if you do it, you have to really know what you're doing because out of the 8 boards I went to, 8 had more than one dog die or get very sick from it.
I can't remember if it was Karen or one of the Canadian people that were talking about it. The people who do do it are very happy but it seems like a very intense and tough road to hoe.
My Mom was just telling me that her manicurist's Doberman Pinscher is very very sick from eating raw meat. Apparently this is all they were feeding him. He has severe liver enzyme problems now that the vet thinks was induced by the raw meat diet. Poor guy :( Makes you wonder what they are really giving those cows that we eat as well  Nothing's safe

Precisely. Heck, I'd probably do well on the BARF diet if someone would make it for me!
