Ben's Escape

A new Petco opened within walking distance to our home. My daughter and I decided we would walk Big Ben there...hoping for two fold results a) he would be well 'relieved' by the time we got there and b) he would be tired and behaved. We received an ad in the mail with all the grand opening deals and freebies and I saw how they were doing free pet portraits. We get there, my plan had worked to this point. The line for the free pictures was long but seemed to be moving so we decided to give it a whirl.

Naturally the line slowed down but Ben was being good considering the number of pig ears, biscuits and bones within his reach. Another woman and her dog, some type of large pincher I'm guessing, got in line behind us. The dog got right in Ben's face and snapped at him. Ben just came to my side but the other dog continued to growl until his owner (finally) stopped him.

So, it's finally our turn and Big Ben jumped right on the portrait table and immediately sat with his back to the camera and would not budge. What a primadona; he just didn't want to pose for the photographers. They decided to do a head shot instead and slowly turned around the table which worked for a couple of pictures. All of the sudden the pincher and his mom came around the screen and Big Ben jumped off the table and proceeded to walk/run right out of Petco, into the parking lot and then ran in circles away from me! It was so scary, I was just waiting for a car to back out and not see him - or me chasing him. All this time my daughter was still inside the store not knowing where I had gone. I finally caught Ben when he was trying to get into a car - guess he thought it was his.

So, I go back into the store and they want to resume taking pictures like nothing happened! They apologized and said they didn't think he would know how to leave the store (the front door was only 10 yards from where they were taking pictures and a straight walk with automatic doors.... why wouldn't just walk out?) Hopefully they learned their lesson and didn't insist on taking leashes off the dogs before photographing them! Anyway, Ben seemed calm again and they actually took a cute shot of him....just glad it was free after that experience! Never thought a walk to Petco would be so exhausting or stressful!

Big Ben slept almost the entire day yesterday....poor guy! Just so glad I have a photo of this memorable day, !
