Help! Max is ruining my garden!

I need some advice on training Max!! Around the perimeter of my back deck I have approx 40 hosta plants in a flower bed. Some are about 3 feet wide but others are still baby plants. Max loves to lay on the large one like they are pillows. Once he does this he breaks all the stalks. When I go over to him and tell him "No, bad Dog" and pull him out by his collar, and tell him good dog, but he then goes nuts, like I'm playing. Running Crazy Eights thoughout the entire garden, waiting for me to chase him. He runs so fast I cant catch him, and by the time he is tired, he has broken a majority of them and dragged straw all over the back yard. It doesn't matter how big the plant is, he is going to run right through it or lay on it and roll around. Once I can catch him I put him in the porch and tell him bad dog, and keep him in there while I am outside. He knows he is being punished, but how can I train him to stay out of the garden. There are so many places in my yard for him to lay around.............help!!

Shelly,

In yesterday's Providence Sunday Journal there was an article about this. I've attached the link - you may need to register on the website - but it had some great ideas and would be worth it.

If you can't get to it - let me know I'll email you the information.

Thanks
Kristen
