Finally ditching dial up....

I know I am like in prehistoric times with dial up.
Next week I am getting Cable internet. Woo hoo!!
Maybe I'll be able to cut down my computer time.
Hubby would like that. I have a feeling he will be spending more time online as he no longer will have to wait forever for a site to load. He is very impatient.

You'll be spending more quality time here on the forum!
Ack! dialup.... blech... LOL
You'll never want to go back LOL

Congrats!! :clappurple:

That's why I do all (with very few exceptions) of my internet surfing at work. Where I live is in a little niche of the county where NO ONE offers high speed internet. Well, DTV does, but its way expensive.

So, I'm envious of you!! :P
You're going to LOVE it. It actually may make you spend MORE time on-line as you can do so much more faster!
I got a really good deal on it.
I wanted to get unlimited long distance on my phone. My cable company offered unlimited long distance for $44, but if I also got high speed cable it was only $6 more because of a discount. Making the phone $25.00 and high speed $25.00
Seemed like a good deal. I am helping a friend out with his company and will be making customer service calls for him. So I needed to get the unlimited phone. The best part is he will be paying for the phone.
COOL!! 8)
Welcome to the 90s!
:P Thanks Jill!

Honestly, I just couldn't afford it....or needed it til now.
Welcome to the 90's.......hehehehe. I only made the switch a year ago, so I can't laugh too much.

We are rural, so no cable. Then they started putting up wireless towers in the small towns around me. Actually, they aren't even "towers", they are the sending units (can't think of the right word!) mounted on tall objects! The town to the east has it on the grain elevator, the town to the west has it on the water tower. If you are in line with them, they can get you a signal. We are in line with the elevator, so our signal comes from there, and our receiver dish is up on our old TV antenna tower. I feel like such a hick, but it works!

You will love the speed, and I bet your blood pressure will go down from lack of frustration! Hubby was thinking it an unneeded expense, but then the price came down where it was cheaper than what the dialup and the extra phone line cost.
Dial up???? What's dial up????
Well, if this makes you feel any better....I went to go rent a movie the other night from my local little video store....I go to the wall with the videos look around, turn to the guy and say "whats up?? you guys going out of business?? You dont have any of the latest movies out..."

His reply to me was "Lady, they havent made a movie for video in 2 yrs...everything is on disk now...."

Sigh, so it looks like Im going to have to suck it up and buy a dvd player....who knew??!!
Less time?? Think again. You'll be amazed how quickly you'll dash from here to here you'll be all over the place. You won't want to stop.

Oh the places you'll go!

Congrats, but with the comment I'll cut down, Hmmmm, think the faster speed makes it worse, you seem to spend more time as everything is faster WOO HOO.

We switched over a year ago from Dial-Up to Broadband that's when I discovered this site 8O Everything is fast so you seem to be on it more 8)
Darcy,

A DVD player can cost as little as $30 nowadays.
I'm very excited!

Darcy,
Walmart has a DVD/VCR combo for $60.00 at Walmart
Welcome to dial-up! You will spend a lot more time on the net, now, for sure..but at triple the number of sites

We are on high-speed internet and also rural. They had to come out and run an line especially to our house. And when we get a big wind the wire sometimes gets caught by a tall tractor trailer going by and it gets ripped out. 24 hours later we are usually back up and running, though. Great service.....

Yeah, but then you need to start to buy DVD's. And what do you do with all the movie videos? We must have over 100 of them....Half of them are Disney movies we were hoping to have around for our grandkids... I don't even think we have a VCR any more.
We have vcr's and dvd players... I've always collected a lot of movies....
All I can say is you must have the PATIENCE of a saint.
I am sooo happy!!
As of 11:15 am this morning I am Road Runner, High Speed.
WOO HOO!!
I've never been able to watch streaming video. Pretty Cool 8)

I know....I am so behind.
Congrats - your Friday the 13th was great. :D

Mine was not so hot (see post), but still not horrible.

Enjoy the speed!
Congrats! I can't imagine going back to dial-up ....ever.
Yea!
