Lepto vaccine

I'm trying to find out more information about the vaccination for lepto. Do any of you have experience with this? Our breeder has asked us not to give it to Bingley, so we've agreed, but I am always on a 'quest' for knowledge so I'd like to know why she recommends this. I've heard the vaccine can be harmful to little daschunds, but I've never heard anything regarding the OES. Our area is a high-risk area for contamination, so I'd like to learn as much as I can about it.

Lepto vaccine is not very effective and is known for causing problems, some quite severe. The risks for most dogs do not outweigh the minimal benefits. Most breeders will null and void the health guarantee if this vaccine is given.
I had never heard that, about the lepto voiding health guarantees around you . In our area, it was always part of routine vaccinations, for as long as I can remember. Several years ago it was dropped, as we were not considered a risk area and it was not needed in the combo. I know recently around here that there is talk that we should be giving it again, as the risk is now there. I have not been giving it for several years.

I checked Chewie's records, because I was pretty sure one of his boosters included lepto - and the 3rd one did. (We got him at almost 4 mos, had all the boosters before we got him.) He is one of Marni H and Kristine L's Masquerade pups, and their vet is a OES breeder also (and very active in the hypothyroid/OES research). We have a very detailed guarantee, so I guess it's different everywhere.

I guess talk with your vet in your area, do some research and make the best decision you can!
Brie had a Lepto Vaccine overseas before coming into Australia, had to have it as part of the quaranteen/entry requirements. Had not heard of it before but it was on her papers. We do not vaccinate at all for this in Australia. So no more since. No nothing about it :?
I have experience with this!

All our dog have to get this once in the year.
the first one they get when they are 12 weeks.
Never had any problem with that :?
Our Vet recommended this past spring that we get the Lepto vaccine because we live in a rural area. He said that chances are very slim for large dogs to have a bad reaction to it - but just our luck - poor Cooper broke out in hives, had swollen lips and vomited several times. We had to bring him in to get a shot of Benadryl. We won't ever get that vaccine again.
My second OESD died from a reaction to vaccines. It was a horrible death and it was unnecessary. Read my old posts especially in the vaccine topics and you will see they are not recommended. My current OESD only gets rabies shots.
