Airline shipping

There is an OES that needs to be rescued and I was wondering if any of you know the approx. price for an airline flight. ??? I've never shipped a dog or puppy, however, I am strongly considering it for this one is because it may be cheaper than driving. (with gas prices as they are)

This OES is going from one full Rescue to another with room ...

What are your experiences with shipping an OES? What are the costs (hidden and otherwise) What is a good, pet-friendly airline?
ANY help or advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thank you! :)

Grace,

You can call the Airlines to ask about shipping as cargo - however - with the summer coming - many of the airlines will not transport animals.

You can also try...

http://www.skyark.org/

They are a non-profit Animal Transport agency.

Where is the transport from and to??? I'd be happy to help anyway I can!

Cost is probably going to be about $150 to $200 if the dog/puupy is shipped through cargo on one of the airlines.
They do ship dogs as long as the temps don't get 85 degrees or above. And you're right, it's right between $150 and $200. They are in a pressurized cargo cabin. However, it IS dark. That part kind of freaks me out. It's a 2 1/2 hour flight, plus any time before and after flight. I have to think on this one. He's just a little guy. :(
As long as the weather is ok HE will be fine... you on the other hand.... :(

When we took Winston to Hawaii, they were two very long flights. He wet his bedding (he's a nervous pee'er anyway), and was very happy to see us and be released.

I know how much worrying you'll do, but rest assured that he will be just fine.
Thanks, Ron, I needed that. :)
I will add to Ron's post my expereince. We had an 8 week old puppy shipped from the Northwest in the middle of January. Weather was hovering around 30 degrees. Puppy survived unscathed. If they have a long lay-over, some airlines will allow you to put instructions for feeding/water on their stop.

I know that I'm alittle late in responding to your post, however, I do have actual information in shipping an OES. Last year I rescued Mollie and had her flown from Arkansas to Michigan via Northwest Airlines. The price last year was $220.00 one way. You have to have all shots up to date with a vet's interstate health certificate. Check with other carriers, the tempatures play an important part for transporting animals on planes.

Hope this information helps.
