Chili is at the vet getting her teeth cleaned.

The Vet tech just called to say that Chili was awake from the anesthesia.
They also said a tooth fell out in the back during the cleaning. Then something about pockets which the Vet hopes will fill in. I have no idea what he was talking about.
I guess I'll find out when I get there.
At least her breath won't smell like butt anymore. 8)
I can't pick her up until 3:30pm. :(

My question is they wanted to know whether I should get the comfort package (Pain Meds) for her. What do you all think?

Poor Chili!!!

I think pockets are like when humans have gum disease, the food accumulates in pockets at the base of the teeth cause BAD BREATH and decay.

I hope Chili is home safe and sound SOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Poor chili :(

I would definitely get pain meds....
Drugs are our friends! lol

Truthfully, she shouldn't be in too much pain. If the tooth fell out during cleaning and wasn't pulled. I've used a low dose aspirin (baby chewable) on my chihuahuas before when I thought they might be in pain and never had any problems. I only give meds when I absolutely have to because it is just too hard on the liver. I don't know how much she weighs but you might ask your vet if that would be a choice instead of the "comfort" pack. Depends on if she decides her mouth hurts too much to eat for a few days. All dogs pain tolerance is different.

Give Chili a kiss from our wawa, Gidget.
Kisses to Chili!!

I hate being apart from my animals for even a minute!! Hope her breath is better after the cleaning. I know my maltese's breath was only good for a few months, and then stunk again.
My worst dream is when teeth fall out! 8O Poor Chili....Id talk to the vet about the meds too....if you can just give her otc, the better I think....

Like you said, at least her breath wont smell bad any more...at least for a while! :D
8O It is verry usual that the teeth fall out for small breed.
We have the same problem with the lhasa apso.
And they smell like H.............
She's home. Ginny, you were right about the pockets. :)
The Vet tech thought she was doing fine with the pain meds she had already been given. We go back next week to check on the gums. They gave me antibiotics for her.

Chili says thanks for caring :D
Oh, the joys of little dogs and nasty teeth!

I'm afraid to take Tazz in again - I have this fear they will all crumble and fall out 8O . I am also concerned about the anesthesia and his CHF. I'm afraid it may kill him.
Maybe you should see if she'll gargle with Listerine daily (I swear by it!!)
LOL...Ginny gave me a great idea...I have no idea if this is good for them, but what about those listerine disolving tabs...cut it up into Chili sizes????

Good idea Darcy
But I won't have to worry about her breath for a while.
She has no smell at all to her breath and her teeth look great.
