squirrels

Well, this week has been very interesting. We went to MO to chose a puppy. Which was a 17 hour drive from NYC. When we got home, there was a young cat, maybe 6 months walking around our back yard. She had a color, but there was no tag on her. So we fed her and after a while she wondered off. Hope she comes back, we would love to adopt her! Then, we found two baby squirrels living next to our gardbage cans outside! They must of fallen out, because they can't climb trees yet. They are adorable! I built a little house for them (milkcrate and towels) so that they can run in and hide from cats. I've been feeding them pieces of bred. The little guys were starving! I found one chewing on a dry root. I went outside to check on them this morning, and they are hudled together next to the crate. I petted them ( :D ) and gave them some more bread and cooked corn. What do I feed them so that they don't get fat and can climb trees when they get older? I am doing some research online, and come up with general feed like nuts and such. I guess I'll go out today and buy some bird food for them. My husband is laughing saying that we went from having no pets to having two squirells and a visiting cat. He he he

LOL... they must be cute... can you take some pictures? I'd love to see them!
Hi,

I think it's commendable that you are taking care of all of these little creatures that have lost their way. I see you are in NYC. I please urge you to look into finding a wildlife refuge that will be able to raise the young squirrels so that they will be able to be released into the wild when they mature without the dependency of being hand fed.

Thanks & good luck with your future pup too.
That is a great idea! I am going to look into finding the wildlife refuge person. Right now they are cuddled in the crate home I made them. Kinda hard to take pictures cause they are hiding inside all the time. But I will try. We also went to the North Shore Animal League today and adopted two brothers, kittens. They are 8 weeks and have colds and pink eye. No one wanted them because of that. But we took them anyway. They are adorable and look better already!
Well, the squirells are gone. I keep leaving food out and they eat it, but they seemed to have been found by the mom. I am so glad, cause I found the number for wild life resue service. So all is well! Too bad I didn't get to take pictures! THey were really cute! The kittens are also adorable! They play all the long, and poop and eat. Such fur balls! Then they cuddle up and go to sleep. It was such a good idea getting two of them! I have to rush home from work, because i miss them!
