Man what a crappy day...hit a PARKED car...AGAIN

About 12 years ago...I thought I did the most stupiest thing ever, I pulled out of a parking spot and somehow snagged the truck beside me and curled his huge bumper up....it really did stick out. Anyways I was 22 ish...

I've been a very good driver ever since, and no more parking accidents, or the cause of any accidents...this makes my second at fault accident.

Today however, I was in a fairly empty parking lot. I had to back up and clear this really long curb before I could turn the wheel even...but I couldn;t go straight back because of a truck directly behind me. For some reason I thought that truck was the only one near me. In my blind spot was a small green car...mazda.

I was finally clear of the curb, and was turning...next thing I know crunch. Looking in my mirrors and shoulder checking this car was no where to be seen.

Sure enough I hit the left corner, broke the tail light cover and dented it around the light.

We can't make another insurance claim...our Camaro was keyed by someone...and that is costing us $500 for the deductable and 1 part of the claim. We have a suspect, but no proof.

This will have to come out of pocket. We left our name and number for them to contact us, but nothing yet. Any thoughts or experinces of damage like this?

I have another close up one...if anyone wants.

Sorry for your mishap. It's a bummer and embarrasing.

Experiences: Was in my VW. Came out of store, hopped in car, looked both ways and behind me, started to back up and WHAM. Backed into a BIG RED TRUCK that parked horizontially behind me in the lane! Got out wondering how I didn't see that big red truck.

Seen a man in a phone booth. Walked over, asked if that was his truck, "Yes." Told him, "Well, I just backed into it." He hung that phone up right away. Nothing wrong with the truck, but the backend (hood) of my VW was totaled! I hated to go home.

Pulled in drive, honked horn, hubby comes out, I cry. Was nothing to him, but his sister and her husband had JUST gotten there for a 2 week visit. Stationed at Fort Hood, TX then. I was sooooo embarrased.

Chin up, you're not the only one with "back up blinders".
It's only a car, yes unfortunate, but accidents happen to the best of us, at least you or no one else were hurt. Cars can be fixed or replaced but people can't be. So glad you are alright :D
The good part is no one was hurt.

The amazing part is you just happened to have a camera with?!!

You could search on ebay and find out how much the tail light assembly is. Mine was about $30 -125 for my escort which I recently replaced. It was WAY more at the dealership. (I got the $30 one by the way :D )
That sucks. What a bummer. I hope it doesn't cost too much. . .

It's only a car :!:
Maybe your note fell off the car or got wet and illegible...

LOL..is wrong of me to have been wishing that, doing the good deed of leaving the note to clear my conscience and hoping it would do just that.

Unfortunately it survived a full days rain, the guy called us at 10 pm...we were going to bed so didn't answer...we feel that is rude to call late after 9 pm, so we didn't answer. Anyways he calls again at 11pm, 12 am, 6:30 am and 7:30 am....and then he called the # I gave for hubby at work 2 times between 6:30 and 7:30 am.

He was happy we left the note, but definitely NOT patient to wait until 8 am which was when I was gonna call back.

Hubby called him, asked him to get some estimates (Not just a dealership) and we are hoping it will be under $500...otherwise we might have to do insurance and that makes 2 claims in 2 weeks...

Our Camaro was keyed up by someone (have a suspect but no proof), now that will be a $3500 fix...complete paint job.

I'm just happy our Tahoe came away with no real scratches...on the foot step of the tailgate it scratched the rubber.
First off you did the right thing leaving a note AND taking pictures of the damage. I have heard too many stories of people I know leaving a note and then the other guy tries to get all preexsisting damage fixed on soemone elses dime. From the looks of it, it shouldn't be too bad. If the tailight housing isn't damaged and its just the lense that will be cheap. What is going to be the biggest part of it will be straightening the sheetmetal and matching the paint. Its all labor and at 80+ an hour it adds up.

You might want to talk to a lawyer/insurance agent just to make sure if you settle with the guy that you do everything right so he can't come back and try and get you for more money later!
Sorry that happened to you. It was lucky you had a camera, smart thinking.
Well the guy got a couple estimates, one was for $1200 and the other for $750 I think. He wanted to go with the lower one, we agreed LOL...

Rob is paying him today. Arghhh...
Write "PAID IN FULL" on the check, both on the memo line and on the reverse above where they will sign to endorse the check.
I don't know if he did that, he already sent it before I posted. We ususally write on the memo line what we are paying for, so it should say car repair or something????

I don't think the guy will try and take advantage of it, or ask for more...Rob saw the report from the body shop. and been there ourselves for other things he felt it was reasonable.

But that is good advice for anyone else in this situation.
