Help needed! (a parody)

This was posted on Petwarmers today as their feature story. Got a chuckle out of it, but it's all too true at the same time!

After the recent discussion about rescues, and being in rescue myself, I decided I would pass on the parody below.

One of the rescue groups I belong to recently had a discussion about the reasons why people give up their dogs or cats. One of the most common is, "We're going to have a baby and can't keep the dog." I'll never figure that one out but I guess it makes people feel better having an excuse. It really can be very frustrating. Anyway, a member sent this on to me and unfortunately, nobody knows the author. If people were to stop and think how it would be if they did the same things to their children that they do to their dogs, they may just think twice (to a certain extent anyway).

If nothing else, there is certainly a bit of humor in this so I hope everyone does enjoy it!

HELP NEEDED ASAP:

Please help! After two long years of being on a waiting list for a dog, we have been notified by breed rescue that, at long last, our number has come up and ... WE ARE HAVING A PUPPY!

We must get rid of our children IMMEDIATELY because we just know how time consuming our new little puppy is going to be and it just wouldn't be fair to the children. Since our little puppy will be arriving on Monday we MUST place the children up for adoption this weekend!

They are described as:
One male -- his name is Tommy, Caucasian (English/Irish mix), light blonde hair, blue eyes. Four years old. Excellent disposition. He doesn't bite. Temperament tested. Does have problems with peeing directly in the toilet. Has had chicken Pox and is current on all shots. Tonsils have already been removed. Tommy eats everything, is very clean, house trained and gets along well with others. Does not run with scissors and with a little training he should be able to read soon.

One female -- her name is Lexie, Caucasian (English/Irish mix), strawberry blonde hair, green eyes quite freckled. Two years old. Can be surly at times. Non-biter, thumb sucker. Has been temperament tested but needs a little attitude adjusting occasionally. She is current on all shots, tonsils out, and is very healthy and can be affectionate. Gets along well with other little girls and little boys but does not like to share her toys and therefore would do best in a one child household. She is a very quick learner and is currently working on her house training. Shouldn't take long at all.

We really do LOVE our children so much and want to do what's right for them. That is why we contacted a rescue group. But we simply can no longer keep them. Also, we are afraid that they may hurt our new puppy.

I hope you understand that ours is a UNIQUE situation and we have a real emergency here! They MUST be placed into your rescue by Sunday night at the latest or we will be forced to drop them off at the orphanage or along some dark, country road. Our priority now has to be our new puppy.

I find this very humorous!
That's funny.

The thing I don't get about people who get rid of/give away their dogs when they have children is...did they not anticipate wanting to have children? When you get a dog you have to assume you will have them for at least 10 years. If you know in those 10 years that you will want to have children, but don't want to have a dog and children at the same time....why get the dog?

I realize some children are not planned and some people really do have extenuating circumstances, but come on...it is called planning people.

rant over
I have read a variation of that post before - it is very good.
It never fails to amaze me why people think they can't have kids and pets at the same time. Maybe they are misinformed by others, or maybe they just have a low "coping" threshold! We have had numerous pets and foster animals, our own 3 kids and about 7 exchange students (and numerous nearby cousins over constantly) and I never noticed a problem!

My relatives and the kids friends almost always assume we will have an extra person or dog at any given time. They think it's cool. We just think it's normal.
That is priceless!
You might be shock to find out how many new parents have been
advised by their doctors to get rid of pets. When we had our
first child my doctor told us the cats really had to go and we really
shouldn't have our dog (then a samoyed) in the house with a
baby. Of course I laughed in his face. Our samoyed was the best
with our first baby, and was so excited when we brought the
second one home. I had never seen her that excited, in 16 years.
Glad she lived long enough to meet him! She was so very careful
around him.

I am so glad there are rescues, and I do believe there are cases
where the dogs are better off because of it. I just wonder if some
people would rethink their decision if they could just hear how
bad their own reasoning sounds!

Shellie
So true isn't, people always tell other people you've GOT to get rid of the pets now that you have a baby....Stupid.

We had two cats before the kids, and they were literally my first 2 kids, I can't imagine if we gave the cats away for the sake of the kids.
HA! Thanks for posting this. I'd get rid of the kids before I'd get rid of the dog or cat. Not that I have any of the above, mind you.
Pets and kids are lifetime commitment PERIOD!!!!!

EXACTLY!!!

I can't believe the number of people who have told me in the last few days that they would never put that much money into a dog (Ty's surgery). I don't look at is as even a choice.
I've seen this before, but I'm glad you posted it, now I can email it :)
