Elissa's Grandmother

I jsut spent close to an hour with Elissa on the phone while she was driving to Laguna beach. Her Grandmother passed away tonight. Elissa has had a hellish day. Ryan stepped on a bottle and had to get stitches right before leaving. Billy had to work. So, Elissa has Hayley, Ryan (with a bum foot) and Chili with her(Chili doesnt know how to use the doggie door yet).

She asked me to let you all know what was going on. She is upset, but knows that her Grandmother had a full and wonderful life. Please keep her and her family in our prayers. Bubbie (gosh, I hope Im spelling that right), God bless.

Elissa, If I forgot anything, please add....

xo,
Darcy

Thanks for posting this Darcy.
I'm sorry to hear your grandma died Elissa. I hope you have other family there for support. It's sad, but also a time to get together and celebrate your grandma's life and all the wonderful things you all remember and made her special.

I was a teen when my favorite grandma died, and even though it hurt, I was proud to talk at her service about what I remembered and treasured about grandma. We lived farther away than most of the grandkids, and the 3 of us who spoke were all from different families and all had different favorite stories. That was one of the best memories I still have today.

This upcoming week will not be easy, but the memories will be there forever. She lived a rich and long life, and had your love. She was a fortunate lady :D .
Hugs to you and the family, my condolences too.

I am so happy she was able to make her 94th b-day...bye Bubbie rest in peace.
Thank you everyone for your sympathy and support during this time.
We stayed over at my sister's house last night. We will spend the day here in the OC. Probably going home later on today.
The funeral is Friday morning graveside.
I'm so sorry Elissa...I'll be thinking of you...

Thanks Everyone!!
A special Thank You to Darcy for being such a great friend, and for talking to me for most of my drive to Grandma's house.

I haven't really cried yet about Grandma. Tomorrow is the funeral so I am sure I will cry then. I just don't think the reality of it all has set in yet.
I am also trying to come up with something to say for the funeral. :?
I just don't know what to say.... Also my sister read to me what she is saying and it is a long speech  Maybe I just won't say anything.

Ryan is NOT following Dr's orders. He is not supposed to be walking on the foot. But the way he is walking basically sliding the bad foot I don't think he will rip the stitches.
He decided to stay at my Sister's house for a couple of days....to take care of her. He said he was worried about her because she is upset.
He told me that Amy needed him. Awww!
Well, one thing that you could do is just reminice with some funny stories about your grandmother...personal ones. Maybe some ones re: the kids, others with you as a kid etc. but keep it light...we did this for our grandfather and not only did people cry, but there were smiles through the tears.

Can the doctors put a heavier bandage on Ryans foot? I cant imagine carrying that lug of potatoes around :D 8O

That was sweet that he wanted to stay at Amy's. He has a good heart :hearts:

You will get through this, focus on the positive and remember how lucky you!!!

xo
You'll cry with you are ready.....it might suprise you when it happens!!! I think that from my experience with funerals and people saying things often the simlest are the most meaningful. DOn't worry about how it sounds, just say what is in your heart!

LOVE the AVATAR!!!!!!!!!!! Here's to YOU GRANDMA!!!!

Hugs to Ryan, poor guy!! How grownup he is that he can see your sisters need and want to help!

Ginny
Thanks Ginny & Darcy.
I am planning on talking about how 3 weeks before Hayley was born that Grandma was rushed to the hospital and she told everyone she was dying.
I rushed to the hospital to see her.
We kept saying to her that her first Great Granddaughter would be born very soon and she had to stick around to meet her.
She got better!
I think when Hayley was about a week and a half old Grandma called me and said. "I just wanted to know if I am invited to Hayley's 1st Birthday Party?" I said Yes, Why are asking that? She said "I wanted to know if I will be seeing her before then."
Mom and Dad did not bring her out with them when Hayley was born because they stayed out here for a couple of days. I wasn't supposed to be driving yet so I hadn't driven down there yet. Grandma was just so excited. Mom and Dad had plans to come out that weekend and I told them that no matter how hard is was going to be that she had to see Hayley. Grandma was ecstatic! Hayley was her little princess and the new reason she had to live.

When Hayley was first born Grandma would call me almost everyday wanting to know what Hayley did. My response was, Eat, Pooped, Peed, slept. lol

I am very lucky to have had my Grandmother in my life and my childrens.

How's that???

Ginny, That was really grown up of Ryan. I was actually very surprised that he said that.

Darcy, I put a lot of padding on the bottom of his foot and he's got a big old bandage on it.
That sounds beautiful Elissa....
That is beautiful Elissa. I am sure your stories with bring a smile to everyones face.
One of the hardest things I have found after both of my parents passed away was learning to live without them. The memories are there, but I sure would like to pick up the phone and have them on the other end again. If I could have one more day...... (how the song goes)

My heart is with you at this time.
Take care,
Helen, Mom of Violet, China and Pearl
Thanks Stacey & Helen
I'm so sorry about your grandmother :( Is that her in your avatar? What a nice tribute to her. Hugs to you and your family.
Thanks herbgirl.
Yes, this is Grandma.

It was taken at her 92nd Birthday Party.
Dear Elissa & Family,

I am sorry I am just catching up.

My deepest condolensces! I am so very sorry for your loss!
Good Luck today Elissa, it will be a tough day for all of you. I'll be thinking about you!!
She is truly beautiful. I can only pray I look that good at 92. I wonder what her secret was she hardly has any wrinkles. My grandmother is beautiful too but she has alot of wrinkles from the sun . She sunbathed in her bikini well into her 70's. She had a twin sister my great aunt June and June had hardly any wrinkles cause she stayed out of the sun. I'll be wrinkly cause I love to bask in the sun too. 8)

Thanks guys ((((hugs to everyone)))) for helping me through this.
I did make the speech. I refused to write it down because I cannot read in public.... I get all nervous and usually have a panic attack, shortness of breath, then I end up skipping words. So I basically said the exact same thing I wrote, just off the top of my head. I was actually complimented on it by quite a few people. 8O

herbgirl, I blurred that photo of Grandma to give it an airbrushed look.
Grandma had wrinkles, she spent a lot of time in the sun. She did look very good for her age though. She was a very active woman until her late 80's. She folk danced 3 to 4 nights a week. Plus doing numerous other activities on the days she didn't dance. She was always busy and after she stopped dancing she took up other things to keep her on the go.
She was the Entertainment Director for the New Jersey Club, She also performed shows with her singing group. The list goes on and on.....
Here is a picture from her 93rd B-day a little over a year ago.

What a great picture of your Grandmother.
You can see it in her eyes what an active, adventurous woman she was.
Glad it went well. Good job Elissa. Public speaking is the hardest. Even when you know everyone!! Bless your Grandmother!
