Themed parties

Has anyone evr had aparty or causual get togther with a theme? I was watching my copy of the HBO series "Rome" and thought how much fun it would be to have a party where everyone comes dressed up, and eats roman food (ROMAN not ITALIAN) and watches the show.

Of course, I don't really know very many people to have a fun party like that with... but I CAN DREAM CAN'T I???

Has anyone ever thrown a themed party like that? Other of course then the little kid birthday parties... a sponge bob birthday party theme is not the line I'm going down...

My twin is having a disco party for our birthday this year....with yuck 70's appetizers.....I cant go...
We had a pirate theme for my 50th birthday. It is great fun to have themes. My sister would love to start a business doing themed parties. You would tell her the theme and the budget and she would take care of the rest. Thre are oictures at out web site craftsofnote.com
Do you mean a party there we looks like
the guys in Astrix :yay: :excited:
I wanna be Trubadurix
Parties are not my thing, and themed parties even less...LOL
I guess I'm just not fun enough...LOL

Then again, a championship party for a dog is more important than a birthday party for a person IMO... go figure.
I love theme parties! I used to throw a Mardi Gras party every year when I lived in Chicago. Cajun/creole food, decorations from Accent Annex in New Orleans, beads, masks, Hurricanes... it was great! I think I'm going to throw one here in AZ in 2007. We also have theme wine tastings - French food and wine, Italian food and wine.

Beware of Roman food - I took Latin for four years and the things they ate back then are either not available or not palatable. Stick with the Italian food, no one will ever know!
I love themed parties too ...as long as I have something in my closet that can fit the theme.

Where's my invite? :D
Woo Hoo theme party girl here, we have had so much fun over the years with our friends.

One of the funniest ones was a "Bad Taste" theme.

The other was a "Red" theme, so all dressed in red, even got that hairspray that colours your hair red, so we all had red hair too.

It's great, especially with a mixed group of friends, sort of breaks the ice and get's everyone in party mood, mixing and having a hoot of a time.
Sue, Im in for your Mardi Gras party!!! Why do we have to wait that long??????
Tarts and Vicars is always good fun - you've seen Bridget Jones right ?
Toga, toga, toga.

Theme parties can be fun if everyone is into it. Years ago a friend would have a "broken hearts ball" on Valentine's Day. This required you come alone--no dates.
We didn't make it to this party but a friend of mine had an Oscar party where people got dressed up in gowns (probably old ugly bridesmaid's dresses).

Mardi Gras moves every year, it's always the day before Ash Wednesday. In 2007 it's on Feb 20th. I'll have the party the Saturday before that, 2/17.
We have a Halloween party most years, but I guess that doesn't
really qualify. We have used our son's costumes as the theme in
the past. It's lots of fun, and not entirely geared towards the kids.
Lots of fun food. Halloween is my favorite holiday. I love to
decorate. We have an archway between the LR and DR and I turn
it into a bat cave. I put shadows on the walls and ghosts onto the
glass of my paintings and mirrors. Loads of fun!
I might try another theme party now that you have me thinking
about it. Like maybe a movie theme... a scary movie... hmmm

I love halloween too. One of my BILand SIL have a big halloween party every year in their hayloft. It's for family, neighbors and friends. There are costume comtests, games, a bonfire and a dance in the loft. One brother is a DJ, so we get great music too! It's potluck munchies, so the food is great too. :D
I LOVE theme parties.

One that I'm waiting to have is the ugly bridesmaid dress party (but be careful that you don't invite the bride who CHOSE the ugly dress)...

And I agree with the roman food...eww! Maybe make it Italian and not Italian American food...
Picture this:

In college, a friend invited several of us to a Tacky Tourist Party which was being held at a very prestigious yacht club.

My friend and I decided to go as Disneyland Tourist, complete with shorts, disneyland t-shirts, sunglasses on our heads, maps in our pockets and of course Mickey Mouse ears.

We walk into the fancy smancy yacht club in the middle of winter dressed this way. No one else was dressed up.

How did it end up you ask? Well either I could have died a thousand deaths or shrugged and thought oh what the heck? My friend Mindy and I were the first on the dance floor when the music started. Afterall ,everyone had noticed us anyhow and no use hiding. We turned out to be the belles of the ball. Haaaaa Haaaaa.

So in retrospect...theme parties are so much fun...just make sure everyone participates.

I love Halloween, too. We live in a huge century home that is 150 years old. The first year we lived here we had a Halloween party for kids and parents. Everyone had to come dressed up and bring something to eat that was "scary". We got some Halloween games off of the internet and ended up with over 50 people.
What a ball! It was surprising how everyone got right into it!

Another thing you may want to do is a Murder Mystery. Those are great, and also involve costumes and are "theme-like".
Hahahahah Marianne!

Joan and I went to a toga party once; we were the only ones who came in togas.

We had a blast! Well, I did, anyway. You'll have to ask her if she did.
I love those Murder Mystery dinner parties! Theme parties are great fun, Karen. I went to a party once where the only food provided was Oreos & Milk.

The next staggett I plan, thats what it's going to be. We all have to wear our butt ugly bridesmaid dresses.
We should just have an online ugly bridesmaid dress party. Everybody just start posting pics of your ugly bridesmaid dresses. Then we never have to actually put on those awful, polyester, pieces of junk again!
No way, I've got a friends that need to be punished.
This is very college, but I once went to a "Rubik's Cube Party." You had to wear 8 differently colored pieces of clothing, and throughout the night, you had to swap each piece with someone else until you were dressed in all the same color.

kinda risque, but fun all the same ;)
