Just returned from Cartagena, Colombia

So many in the USA think that Colombia is dangerous. This was my first time in Colombia and we loved it! The people are very friendly and warm. Food is amazing. Cartagena was clean, safe and very beautiful. We stayed in the old walled city - very quaint - like a small village in Spain. We did see the new areas and wow it was just like Miami. Beaches are not great - really need to go the islands off the city to see the nice beaches. We did rent a sailboat and spent 5 hours around the bay and a little in the Carribean. There is lots to see and do. We walked around at all times of the day and night and never once had a problem. We went to one of the malls - it was nicer and more modern than malls in Melbourne, Fl. I was surprised. This is not a third world country. The only problem was the people wanted us to eat all the time. HA! I just wanted to post this to help the bad image that Colombia has. The problems are in the past but Americans are not aware that Colombia has a democracy like ours and is very advanced. No one tried to kidnap us. HA! OK we tried to kidnap the captain of the sailboat - wanted to see Panama. ha! We were probably safer there than parts of Orlando. I would not walk around Orlando like I did in Cartagena. It did help that I speak spanish. It was a wonderful experience.

The first thing that popped into my mind when I read your title of this post was Romancing The Stone. :D
I forwarded the link to your post on to my daughter and future son-in-law as he is from Colombia and was very pleased to read your comments! My daughter Kelly is getting married to Nic (her Fiance) in January and after the wedding here, we are all jetting off to Colombia to have another wedding there for some of his family who are unable to travel here. It was great to read your comments. Glad you had a nice time!
