Guess who is in danger of being ON Santa's nice list this yr

I never thought I'd say this... but....

HUDSON!

He's been doing so well lately. He's been left in the bedroom during the days and there's been NO destruction at all (although he still manages to vomit on the bedding once a week, but we're working through that with the vet...)

We've had three dinner parties/gatherings this month. The first one he was nuts and had to be held for the first ten minutes. Then he went in his crate while we ate and rejoined the group after AND BEHAVED with minimal intervention from us.

The second he had to be restrained for the first ten minutes, then did the crate thing, and then came back calmly and needed NO reminders. He spent over three hours hanging with the family. NO JUMPING. (There was an unfortunate drool soaked toy in my father's lap incident, but the resulting face my dad made was a total bonus! Good one Smudgie!)

The third was even better. He was held for the first five minutes and then calmed himself down BEFORE the kennel break. He was able to be with the group, and then (for safety - hot oil fondue is NOT the time to test his behaviour) went to the bedroom (not the crate) until the hot oil had left the building. He walked down the stairs unrestrained and rejoined the group like a calm, civilized dog. There were tears of pride in my eyes.

In case anyone is worried that the Hudson stories will be no more - fear not. He's learned a new skill. He waits until we are asleep and then drags all the blankets off the side of the bed, fluffs them up, and makes himself a bed. We keep waking up freezing. Since it's my side of the bed, my hubby insists it's me, but Hudson and I know the truth.

He's also been running in from going outside for a pee, flying down the basement stairs, and laying down on the bath mat. It takes two of us to drag him out. He's never been interested in the basement before so it was a complete mystery.

I was home on Monday and found out from the lady who cleans our house that it's HER routine he's learned. She always takes him out for a pee when she arrives (she loves him dearly) and then heads down to clean the downstairs bath. She says that to get to the floor she pulls him right out on the bathmat and leaves him in the laundry room. He watches from there and then when she's done he gets up to return to the main floor, which is when she grabs the bath mat and is actually able to shake it out.

What a little creep. She was also kind enough to teach me the command she gives him to get him OFF the bed and to wait in the hall so she can make it. I don't really bother most days, but when I have tried he plays in the blankets as I try to make it. It's nice to know he's picking up new commands from others in his life.

I'll say it again...he's being really good lately, but he's still a little creep!

Ho ho ho!

 Too funny!!! Smart cookie.

Mequpak IS on the naughty list. So much so, the kids know it and tell EVERYONE that he's not getting presents this year. Joshee just points to him and says "Bad, Bad, Bad!" Know what 8 rolls of 2-ply toilet paper totally shredded in one big room looks like? BTW, he dragged it from the garage into the house. Then storing the extra toilet paper on the very top shelf thinking at least now he can't reach it, and having that very tall shelf fall on your nice unmarked car so he can get to the toilet paper?!? I'm trying to breathe....

AT LEAST YOUR DOG is relatively good in front of guests. That's impressive. It's important he makes others think he's a good dog. :)
Pearl is on the good (est) list!!!!! She is a joy!!! At 13...almost 14, she is perfect in everyway!!!

She keeps the other "kids' in line, when they begin to get rowdy in the house..Pearl is there to yell at them and tell them to settle down. She never gets into anything. I could put prime rib on the floor and she wouldn't touch it..(could be her sense of smell is going...along with her hearing and her eyesite) BUT no matter!!!!! She is the BEST!!!!!!! :D :D :D

Well, at that age their job is to make all the youngsters look bad!

My father likes to categorize mine as naughty and nice  Sybil almost made the nice list last night, and then she blew it by getting sopping wet and coming inside and jumping on him. Mace, however, Ms Perfect Heir to the Perfect Throne (that would be Queen Belle), has been on the naughty list ever since he arrived and deservedly so!!!

All of Belle's descendants - I have her granddaughter, Ruby, visiting, in addition to her daughter, Liz, whom adores my Dad and tries to spend all her time on his lap - are all nice by default, I guess

Dazzle is...Dazzle. And runs around barking at him.

He co-owns the boy dog who worships him as well. I point out that he's a PITA, but Dad insists he's on the nice list. Sometimes it's all about perception, I guess.

Naw....you do know that boys, meaning dad & the boy dog (and I refuse to call boy dogs PITAs. They are so sweet) stick together...... no matter what!
Well, of course Chewie is on the good list. :D

Sister Martha is on the bad, as she ripped up my work bag night before last again, this time putting 2 holes in it. And she got to the diaper bag as well........ :(
