Shon and other Colorado listers

Today, April 15th, is the 88th anniversary of the greatest snowfall reported in one day in the U.S. An official National Weather Service (then called the U.S. Weather Bureau) cooperative station at a water supply reservoir (Silver Lake) in the mountains a few miles WNW from Boulder, Colorado received over 90" of snow in just over 30 hours -- 76" of which likely fell in the official 24-hour observation day for April 15, 1921. People often think that record snowfall this far from an ocean or other large body of water is impossible, but anyone who has lived along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains or Black Hills of South Dakota, know that amazing storms can happen during the spring.

So it ain't over til it's over.......maybe more snow Friday??

BITE YOUR BLASTED TONGUE!!!!!!

I left LAX this am around 8 am........ chilly a bit but pleasant.
Got to Salt Lake City and it was snowing like mad...........
Home to Denver around 4 pm........ Chilly WILD WINDS coming from that Western direction.

I hear we are in for it.
I remeber 5 years ago i was home with my back broken and 5 dogs and 2 cats when we got whalloped with that duzy of a storm. Norm's work made him drive (normally 45 min) down to Denver to work. Took him 4 1/2 HOURS and whn he got in the Governor literally CLOSED COLORADO and told everyone to stay home.

Next year in March. We were in Belize. I turned on the tv........ of course (and why i have never figured this out) Channel 9 from Denver is their tv station was on and again WHALLOPED snow storm!

I haven't had but 2 very very very small snow's here this year. 3 inches each time at the most. Trees have buds and are on the 'brink' of blooming, all the daffydills are 'up' but only 1 has bloomed. I think they all know something BIG is coming..........

** Note to self**** get thee to the grocery store in the AM early and get food in the house!!!
You are definitely correct when saying it's not over till it's over. Not sure what will happen Friday have to wait and see. Any moisture will be good for sure.

The only problem is every year about this time I'm done with snow and want the summer activities to start. I got 50 days of snowboarding in, so I'm happy. Obe got 15-20 play days up there as well.

This weekend is a lot of the mountains will be closing. A-basin and Loveland will stay open.
When I was at A-basin, they'd stay open til June........snow or no snow   Literally, only snow was under the upper chair, nothing below mid-way except the service road.

Probably best to be done with it now, worse sun burns were from Spring skiing, but then I didn't ski in shorts in December.
Not done completely I should have said. Going to Copper for closing day on Sunday. Free music all day, good times hopefully in the sun with 3-4 ft of fresh. That would be the way to end a season. I still have Loveland & Basin season passes. I can still go if I want it's just...ok time to do something else.
BTW, Spring storm is here. Now lets see what it can do!!!
hehehehehe

Hope that snow shovel is handy. You gotcha yourself an upslope storm with a nice moisture draw. Feet of snow for you.

As usual we are on the wrong side of the low, just getting the wind, chilly though.
Good luck out there.

Personally, I hope I haven't cursed us......I put my shovel away today
This morning I heard on the radio that Colorado may get 24 inches of snow. 8O Stay safe everyone!
In Boulder, we had wet snow this morning but it hasn't really amounted to much. They say more might be coming but I guess I am skeptical. I need to go shake the heavy stuff off my drooping tree limbs.
I think I'll stick with my April Showers thankyou!
I'm sitting at DIA trying to hop on an earlier flight than I was scheduled HOPING I can "get out of Dodge" before I end up spending my weekend with my sister in Arvada.

SOA

AAARRRRRGGGGGGG! They just announced a mechanical delay!
Stay safe all of you in the snow's path, but I am sure glad I am on the east coast where it is going to be sunny and 70 this weekend.
started in last night here at my house and it hs rained, and rained and pour'd and rained!! I'm not complaining in the least!!! I put my fertilizer down last week, and OMG in just the past 24 hours i cannot believe how GREEN my grass is!!! They say tonight will turn to snow. I'm okay with that. So long that this is the LAST of this mess (yeah right......... this IS Colorado we are talking about isn't it?). They are showing pictures on the news right now and some places in Conifer have 3 feet of new snow..... and tonight still to come!

I'm ready for summer, but then the warm temps, we will be waiting for winter to come!! lol.

I have curled up with movies and book today.......... they are now saying up to 8 inches of snow for me tonight........ Shon you should get 36 inches of snow..........

Hope the electricity holds up for all.
Living in a climate where it is "summer" all year long, I often forget that it snows else where. It does sound like you are ready for anything, well almost, Ali. Best of luck to all of you being delt this big snow storm. Crossing fingers the electricity stays on.
A friend from Montana, where they still have snow on the ground, flew into Denver Thursday night. They barely got out - by changing their destination. But they arrived in Austin after midnight and weren't able to get a oneway rental until Friday morning. Austin to Dallas is a brutal drive in good weather (traffic, bad roads & construction), but the rain was pouring (not complaining, we need the rain).

It's like it is going to be a bit cooler for the Buffet concert today.
Well what else to do but have a damn good time. Did some snowboarding, a lot of drinking, some more snowboarding. Saw a free concert @ Breck last night, closing weekend celebrations. Then to Copper Mtn today for a free, last day of season concert.

Came home driveway was plowed, most of the snow had melted from stairs and decks. So... what else can you do but enjoy it and have a good time.
And i had NO SNOW here at all!

But MAN did it RAIN........... it POUR'd for 3 DAYS AND NIGHTS. I was starting to feel like i might need to blow up all the rubber duckies in the pool packs!

I have 1 princess diva (Dee) who doesn't want to get wet. She won't use the new 'potty pen' because "other's go there" and she is too Uppity for that! lol. So, she has to go out in the big yard......... but, she comes right back in. The babies will not let be out in the big yard as they have to be chased down to be brought in..... and i'm just not up to that.

But the good side of all of this?! OMG is my yard GREEN after just 3 days!! It was almost 75 degrees here today......... my tulips and daffydills (yes they are daffy) are all up big time. I am going to HAvE to get on a landscaping company tomorrow about my mulch being broght in and laid down. HAS to be this week!

Shon, glad to hear you have electricity!! I worried about you up there...........
Our coordinator mentioned there in Ft. Collins the temps stayed just above freezing so they too received rain, not snow. Almost 3" which is unreal amount at one time........for that area.

Fast melt, spring snows here today, gone in a few hours.

Wish my grass was green.........so windy here the moisture is sucked out quickly and too windy to water. If I could have a few wind free days I could get it wet........then wait for the invading bermudagrass to green up....it wouldn't be brown/green. I hate this 1/2 lawn business.......

Yep, ski time is over except for the die hard areas. Time for different stuff now.
I cant believe you didn't get any snow Ali. We got pounded here in Evergreen. Then I-70 closed from Vail to Morrison so I grabbed my stuff and headed out Hwy 285 and came into Breck the back way.

The coolest part of the weekend was hanging, skiing with 2 Olympians and X Games medalist. They happened to be in town visiting friends, had a photo shoot @ Breck in the terrain park, and of course end of season festivities. So funny how you end up meeting people and hanging out.
I kept telling the 'kids' OKAY TOMORROW when you wake up you'll have snow.............. TOMORROW................... TOMORROW they gave up on me............... oh well.

Glad you had a great time. Maybe after these 4 disc get replaced i'll be able to ski again someday................ we'll see. They say so but i wonder.
