The hardest working participant at our garage sale was our ten year old sheepie, Portage. We had him tied up right with/directly behind us (no one could get near him without being invited past). Many people asked to pet him and he was our greeter/ambassador. Hudson (crazypuppyhead) was out for a bit, but jumped on anyone who came, so he spent much of the time in his crate next to Portage. Yesterday evening (after day one) Portage was so stiff, tired and sore that we decided to keep him indoors today. He, of course, did not concur. He barked and barked and scratched at the door (and later the windows upstairs) trying to come out. We haven't crated him in years and didn't want to put him through that trauma, so we ended up letting him come back out. He was very quiet and friendly, but would not lie down at any point, insisting on greeting people and continuing his supervisory duties. When we finished up at five and came in he fell instantly and soundly asleep on the couch. We woke him for dinner, and then he slept deeply immediatlely after. We not only had to wake him for his final meal (known here as second dinner), but we had to gently lift his bum to get him up as he just wanted to roll over and sleep some more. He is now hogging the middle of the bed (hence I'm up posting this at midnight) and snoring like a lumberjack. What a helpful guy. I even find the snoring especially charming tonight. He worked hard. He's earned the priority spot on the bed. Tracie, sleepyhead Portage, and Hudson |

I am glad you had a good time, now I have never been to a garage sale but am just off to a car boot. If I take Summer and Tilly with us we never get to look at anything as people stop to fuss Summer. Also some sellers dont like her poking her nose in the stuffed toys....miseries! |
So how many offers did you have for Portage? Poor old guy, of course he had a great time.
Yes, seasoned garage sellers......or vultures....are something else. I had one tell me to go get my jewlery box because surely I had something good in there. Excuse me? She surely would have been disappointed then and now, |
Yes we had many offers for Portage. Several parents asked about an even swap for their teens. A few offers for Hudson, too...but only until Gordon actually brought him over to meet them. Then they realized that crazypuppyheaditis is no a bargain at ANY price. In another forty years, when we have our second garage sale, Portage is going to get a little blue vest (just like a Walmart greeter) to wear. And, on a side note, the dog who was soooooo tiiiiiireed that he couldn't (wouldn't) wake up for dinner OR second dinner, was scratching at my head at five this morning for his walk. He bounded through it all. I guess one really good sleep is all it takes. I wish I had his resiliency! I'm pooped and my back is still aching. (I know...whine whine whine!) Tracie |
Oh yeah, I meant to ask...what's a car boot? (asked the uninformed Canadian...)
Tracie |
She's explained it before.......rather like a flea market. People load up their stuff in the boot (the car's trunk) and take it to a selling area and sell out of the trunk. |
Th uninformed Canadian (now slightly less uninformed) thanks you! |
we did actually take the dogs to a car boot yesterday. Now Summer jumps up people and she tends to use her nails! She was fine with doggy people who sort of held her down and fussed her, but its the little old ladies with walking sticks that nearly get knocked over that scare me. By the end of the morning she wasn't jumping up so much. Apart from when this miserable old Labrador started telling her off. Lab was bigger than her so she went to my grown up son and did her "pick me up pick me up" to him! |
