Am I a cat or am I a sheepie? or attack of the flying sheepy

Yesterday while working in the garden, I caught Sophie stalking poor Beauford. She was more like a cat stalking her prey than a sheepie. Beauford was walking up the hill just lumbering along minding his own business when out of nowhere Sophie spies him. She took off running as fast as she could. Jumps, lands on Beauford's back sideways, front legs on one side, hind on the other. Poor Beau, he didnt know what hit him. He started spinning around, like a dog chasing a tail, trying to figure out what in the world happened. Sophie is one crazy sheepie. Beau was so much more laid back as a puppy. I dont know what to do with this girl.

I feel sorry for poor Beauford and Cheyenne. Although Cheyenne lets her know who's boss. Which is good Cheyenne was here first and deserves that title.

Ever seen a border collie "stalking" sheep....? :D

Mad used to "stalk" tunnels that way (don't ask  ) and even did a little bit of it when I put her on sheep, which surprised me some, being an OES.

Some of her kids will do the crouch and stalk thing to initiate play, but one of my former rescue fosters, Maggie, is an absolute artist when it came to stalking. I don't know if her sister, Liz, does the same thing (Deb?)

As you noted, it's prey drive (hunting) related behavior and I love watching them in action when they're in that mode.

We had a Border Collie mix rescue (Tipsy) and she would stalk like that to anything... birds, squirrels, neighbors dog, toys..... she was fun to watch.

Baloo.... well he just runs full force at whatever he's spied. No stalking and no being quiet... just full out bounding.

That sounds about right.

OES motto: if you can't finesse'em, mow'em down!!!!!!!!

Rags stalks, then pounces like Tigger. I swear that girl has springs in her legs.

Pepsi also just runs at full speed. 8O Watch out!
Asia is a stalker and China is usually her victim. China will come in the bedroom and lay down on the floor next to the bed. Asia will walk across the bed with her head tucked down and will jump on top of her. Playing will then ensue. China is a very patient Auntie with Asia. Violet will even "allow" Asia to play with her.
Stalking sheepies. LOL go figure what is it they cant do
Sophies new trick is to pounce from the couch. She waits for one of the big dogs to walk past and she either bops them on the head with her paw or jumps on them. She is such a terror.
Our first sheepie, BRANDON, loved to look through our fence at the goings on on the sidewalk directly beside it. Since it was an alternating slat kind of fence, you could only see through it on an angle.

Once, I watched him slowly stalk something on the other side all the way across the length of our yard. It was super slow motion (he'd lift one paw at a time), and his concentration was intense. When I finally got to a point where I could see what he was watching it was a little girl on her tricycle, going very very slowly (she was alone, and completely focused on what she was doing). She had no idea that there was someone about six inches from her, watching.

He waited and waited and waited, and then suddenly let out with this single, huge WOOOOOOOF! She screamed, jumped off the tricycle, and dragged it all the way down the sidewalk to the next street.

I know it's a bit mean of me, but I thought it was about the funniest thing I ever saw. When she was running away, he just turned around and trotted back to me. And I swear I saw his eyes brimming with pride.
Panda stalks feral cats... 8O

before we go to bed, i walk her across the street to the park to do her final potty....on the front porch she does the rambo...looks both ways really fast...takes a few steps...looks again....etc...i swear if she had something to hide against like a building, she would be pressed up against it and giving me the paws up that the coast was clear

Thats so funny lol naughty stalking sheepie
Missed this post. :(

Chewie is a stalker too. He and Maggie do this while out in the dog yard. He isn't as crouched as a border collie or aussie, but he has the slow, one step at a time stalk down pat! I stand in the porch doorway and watch him whenever I can.
I really need to get all this show stuff done so he can get down and dirty and work on his sheep herding!
